The Friends of Tide Mills is a small, informal group of mainly local people interested in maintaining and preserving the unique atmosphere of this area for the benefit of all.

Our prime objective is the collection of (mainly) seaborne rubbish (nearly 2000 bags to date) but we have also taken an active role in clearing vegetation such as Japanese Knotweed, putting up warning signs about ground-nesting birds, and assisting other groups with the recording and conservation of the plants and animals inhabiting this special habitat known as "Vegetated Shingle".

We meet once a month, on a Sunday morning (always the 3rd Sunday of the month) between 10am and noon. We have litter grabbers and bags generously provided by Newhaven Port Properties. We just need you to work them! We meet at the old village beach waymarker, at the end of Mill Drove around 10 a.m. New members especially welcome.

In a remote Icelandic farming valley, two brothers who live a few hundred metres from each other but haven't spoken to each other for 40 years. They communicate, if necessary, by writing letters which are carried from one house to the other by a sheepdog. When their flocks of expertly bred sheep are diagnosed with a deadly disease, their lives are turned upside down. Rams is one of those little gems that deserved to make it to win the foreign language Oscars, but was not selected for the final shortlist. That's a pity as it is a facinating movie well worth seeing.

In the 1960s, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson struggles with emerging psychosis as he attempts to craft his avant-garde pop masterpiece Pet Sounds. In the 1980s, he is a broken, confused man under the 24-hour watch of shady therapist Dr. Eugene Landy. For the most part, this movie, a smart, compassionate, refreshingly unconventional biopic that makes good on both promises, exploring the mental world and the artistic method of a great artist. It's a loving tribute to the Beach Boys and the man responsible for their distinctive sound, but it goes to deeper and stranger places than most movies of its kind.

This is family trauma where three girls have been abandoned by their mother after their father left for another woman. The Koda sisters have been brought up by their maternal grandparents. When the movie begins, their grandparents are long gone and the girls have been living in the family house and taking care of themselves. They hear that their father has died and have to attend his funeral, where they meet their half-sister, 15-year-old Suzu for the first time. It is how the sisters interact with their new sibling that makes this tale a wonderful movie.

The Stranglers plus Special Guests

The Stranglers are back on the road again and coming to Brighton Dome. Following the sell-out success of their Black and White Tour in March last year, the group will, this time, present the Classic Collection to coincide with the planned re-release of the entire Stranglers studio album catalogue from the period 1977-82.

Drawing from this expansive and impressive catalogue that spans some 40 years, the Stranglers will enthral audiences with an exciting mix of material, all bearing the distinctive signature style of this most enduring of British bands; driving rhythms, anthemic melodies, quirky time signatures and occasional dark humour, held together by those trademark rumbling bass lines and swirling keyboards.

One of the UK's most exciting, credible and influential British groups, the Stranglers are riding high on the crest of a resurgent wave of popularity. They continue to out-rock many on the live circuit, including much younger bands, and their existing large and loyal fan base has swelled in recent years as new converts join the ranks. With record-breaking, sell-out shows and festival appearances throughout the UK and the rest of the world, public demand to hear and see the group has never been so high; true testament to their considerable musical talent and the enduring quality of their songs. The legendary Ruts DC promise to deliver a memorable addition to the tour as special guests.

With the recession biting hard, Emily and Oliver have decided to downsize and shift their middle-class London lifestyle to a small town in the north of England.

One night they open their doors and invite next door neighbours, Dawn and Alan into their home. Over the course of a disastrous evening of olives, anchovies, Karl Marx and abstract art, class and culture collide where the consequences are as tragic as they are hilarious.

From one of the most exciting playwrights to emerge since Alan Ayckbourn, Torben Betts, and produced by the award winning Original Theatre Company (Birdsong, Three Men In A Boat), comes this 'riotously funny' production.

Following its success in the West End, Las Vegas and on Broadway, Million Dollar Quartet is coming! Theatre Royal Brighton presents 'The Crucible'
Date: Monday 24 April 2017
Time: 7:45pm
Where: Theatre Royal, New Road BN1 1SD
Town: Brighton
Phone: 0844 871 7650

When a group of young girls are discovered dancing in the woods trying to conjure spirits, the God-fearing people of a small New England town are told the devil and witchcraft is in their midst and must be rooted out at all costs. The town is quickly caught up in an unstoppable flow of paranoia, indictment and manipulation as personal grievances collide with lust and superstition creating a crucible of suspicion where no person is safe from his neighbour.

This bold new production of The Crucible starring Charlie Condou (Coronation Street), as the witch hunter, Reverend Hale and Victoria Yeates (Call the Midwife), the falsely accused Elizabeth Proctor, serves as a stark and chilling reminder of the frailty of reason in the face of hysteria and the terrifying power of false accusations.

The Crucible is an ageless allegory of morality, a scorching indictment of fanaticism, and the most powerful central work of American drama.

Elizabeth's having none of it, and mounts the barricades...

Outside theatre with the Rude Mechanical Theatre Company, bringing their unique style of physical theatre to Seaford with another brand new play with top quality live music, 'The Commercial Traveller'.

Enjoy a picnic and watch mesmerizing theatre in a wonderful setting. A very strong story, but hard edged with a feeling of February about it, a slow flowing Thames, cobbled streets and mists of 1920's London. Dark deeds hidden away. A complicated lock of rusty cogs and levers that will gradually be oiled until the key eventually turns in the final few minutes of the play, when the Spring blossom on the cherry trees comes into bloom.

Bring your own chair and a picnic from 6.00pm. Tickets from the website, £16 adults, £15 seniors, £12 students, £9 children.

In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto the dingy British streets. It was the essence of all that was cool. It was Mod. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant culture. They were working-class free spirits who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or Lambrettas.

The sharpest Mod of all was known as a 'FACE'.

The Small Faces encapsulated all that is Mod, a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat, clothes obsessed and street-wise. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their dedication to Rhythm 'n' Blues. This 'Mod' Musical is a trans-generational musical experience celebrating the unique sound of the iconic Mod band, The Small Faces.

Featuring the music of the Small Faces, including an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Lazy Sunday, Tin Soldier, Sha La La La Lee, Itchycoo Park and of course All Or Nothing,
